When I Rest My Head on Your Shoulder

When I Rest My Head on Your Shoulder

When I rest my head on your shoulder
I am at peace with the world
The radio plays my favourite songs
the weather is perfect
and that unexpected knock at the door
isn't the taxman

When I put my head on your shoulder

When I put my head on your shoulder
I am in peace with the entire world
Radio broadcasts beautiful songs
The weather is good
And the one who knocks unexpectedly
Is not the tax agent

As with the other five small lyrics by Fariba Shadloo we translated in one workshop, we needed to do very little to Alireza’s fine literal version, as you’ll see if you compare the final poem with his translation.

In the original Farsi, none of these poems has a title. Because of the way our website is set up, we’ve had to use the first line as the title for each of them.
