Event Starts at 7:30pm.

Bejan Matur is multi-award-winning Kurdish poet and journalist, currently living in London. She is a leading figure in the bold new women’s poetry emerging from the Middle East. Her poetry engages directly with the struggles of her people, and yet there is also a mysticism in her writing, a closeness to nature, an embracing of mythology.

In the first part of the evening Bejan Matur will read her work in Kurdish and Turkish. Erica Jarnes, managing director of The Poetry Translation Centre, will read the new English translations by Jen Hadfield and Canan Marasligil. In the second part they will discuss Bejan’s work and the PTC’s collaborative translations process. Copies of Bejan Matur’s new Poetry Translation Centre chapbook If this is a lament will be available to buy at the event.
