What are the challenges faced by women and how have they claimed a space for their work in the Horn of Africa and the diaspora?

This exciting evening included short films produced by Gashanti Unity. Nadifa Mohamed, author of the award-winning novel Black Mamba Boy, introduced her keenly-awaited second novel; and poets Clare Pollard and Caasha Lul Mohamad Yusuf read from Caasha’s recently published chapbook. The evening closed with a performance by the great Somali musician, Maryan Mursal.

Women’s Night is always one of the highlights of the Somali Week Festival and this year’s special event was no exception to that rule. A warm and enthusiastic audience welcomed all the women speaking and performing and everyone really enjoyed hearing Clare and Caasha reading together. You can watch videos of their reading on the PTC’s YouTube channel.
