We were delighted that the Sudanese poet, Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi, was able to join us for a special workshop to discuss his poetry and translations alongside his translators Sabry Hafez and Sarah Maguire. It was fascinating to have the opportunity to talk to Saddiq directly about his poems, and to gain an understanding of the complexities of translating Arabic poetry into English.

We looked in detail at Saddiq’s poem ‘Everything’. You can read the poem in Arabic, its literal translation and the final version.

Saddiq’s poems are being translated by PTC Director, Sarah Maguire, and Sabry Hafez, Research Professor of Modern Arabic at SOAS.
