The PTC invites you to the launch of our very first online tour, celebrating the publication of Aulò! Aulò! Aulò! by Eritrean poet Ribka Sibhatu and her translator André Naffis-Sahely. You can join the poet and her translator on YouTube live for free to watch the premiere of our new tour video featuring the pair reading poems remotely from their homes and talking about why these works are so important to their author. This is an opportunity to join poetry fans all over the world to celebrate the voice of this vital African poet.
Ribka’s work explores identity and represents a modern, multicultural, multilingual Europe that includes cultures and heritage from outside Europe. She writes in Tigrinya, Ahmaric and translates her own work into Italian. André Naffis-Sahely is a poet, editor and critic who has worked with Ribka for close to a decade. He has translated her work into English for this new World Poets Series volume.
Aulò! Aulò! Aulò! features both narrative and lyric poems, as well as retellings of traditional oral African fables that Ribka has collected and reshaped. This online launch event will give you the chance to experience the poems in two languages and live chat with the poet and translator. If you fancy you can even pour yourself a drink.
Ribka Sibhatu‘s tour has been co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
