Join us for a drinks reception and poetry reading to celebrate the Poetry Translation Centre’s 20th birthday!
Leading French-Algerian poet Habib Tengour will read from his collection Consolatio, translated into English by Delaina Haslam and Will Harris. We’ll then have a chance to chat and unwind after a busy day at the London Book Fair.
Rooted in Maghribi cultural identity and memory, Habib Tengour’s poems consider the experience of exile in a voice that is by turns unsentimental and surreal. Though he writes in French, the long heritage of Arabic and Imazighen poetries reverberates through his work alongside the voices of the storytellers of his childhood and the urgent ‘desire-scream’ of raï music.
2024 marks the Poetry Translation Centre’s 20th birthday. Throughout the year, the PTC will run events and workshops across England, showcasing the poets and translators they’ve worked with since 2004. Join in at poetrytranslation.org.
