Maxamed Xasan ‘Alto’ led the first in our series of community workshops for Somali speakers that introduce them to the process of translating poetry and the work of the PTC.
During a very lively evening, the highly enthusiastic group of Somali speakers translated a poem Faysal Aw-Cabdi. The workshop was a particularly special event as the poet himself was able to come along. It was a real pleasure having Faysal there and the group very much enjoyed quizzing the poet about the meaning of his love poem ‘Perfection’.
Alto will bring the literal translation of this poem to the Poetry Translation Workshop on Wednesday 29th June to create a new poem in English.
The workshop is free and is open to anyone who speaks Somali as their first language.
