Kurdish poet Bejan Matur reading in translation with Jen Hadfield

Celebrating the publication of Akin to Stone, a collection of enthrallingly visceral poems by Bejan Matur, Poetry Translation Centre and StAnza present dual-language readings from the book. Bejan, making a special visit to the UK for the release of the collection, will read in the original Turkish, alongside Jen Hadfield providing electrifying English versions.

Bejan Matur’s poems are full of imaginative potency. She is one of the leading voices of a bold new women’s poetry emerging from the Middle East. Her award-winning poems describe a delicate space between concrete realism and mystical reflection, engaging with the struggles of the Kurdish people of Turkey. This new volume of her work presents poems from all stages of her career, with some of her most acclaimed poems alongside works appearing in English for the first time.

Jen Hadfield is a T.S. Eliot award-winning poet with three published collections currently to her name. Jen worked with Turkish translator Canan Marasligil to collaboratively produce the translations of Bejan’s work for the Poetry Translation Centre.
