Literary translator and editor David Haysom returns to the PTC workshop with another exciting Chinese poet: Shen Haobo who is a proponent of the new “Bottom-Half Body” poetry concerned with taboo subjects and animal urges. Clare Pollard will facilitate this workshop.

Shen Haobo is a poet, publisher and venture capitalist, born in Jiangsu Province in 1976. He graduated from Beijing Normal University and became known as a proponent of the “Bottom-Half Body” movement that sought to do-away with many of the taboos regarding explicit content in poetry, instead embracing an animalistic approach to forbidden subject areas. His most recent collection of poetry Command Me to be Silent and many of his recent work has received critical acclaim. He lives in Beijing and runs the Motie Group, one of the most influential publishing and media companies in China.
Dave Haysom is a literary translator and editor who has been living in Beijing since 2007. He first started publishing translations online at spittingdog.net in 2012. In 2014 he became joint managing editor of Pathlight, a quarterly journal of Chinese literature in translation, and in 2015 he helped launch “Read Paper Republic”, a year-long initiative to publish one translation online every week.
Clare Pollard is an award winning UK poet, She has published four collections with Bloodaxe Books, latest is Incarnation. She has extensive experience as a translator, co-translating Caasha Lul Mohamud Yusuf for the PTC. Clare also mentors for New Writing North, and is a core tutor on the new Poetry School/University of Newcastle Poetry MA.
