We’re very grateful to everyone at The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaelology for organising such a warm welcome for Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi to his residency at Museum.
Saddiq read a selection of his poems in Arabic with poet and translator, Clare Pollard, reading Sarah Maguire’s translations in English (sadly, Sarah was unwell and couldn’t join us).As you can see from the photos (taken by Travis Elborough), the evening was a really happy occasion which gave Saddiq a chance to meet old and new friends.
One of the best things about this lovely party was its setting: amidst the vitrines of The Petrie Museum that house its remarkable collection of ancient Egyptian and Sudanese artefacts – about which Saddiq has been commissioned to write a series of poems.
Saddiq will be working with the museum collection, especially the material from Meroe, Sudan to produce a series of new poems over the coming months. If you join our mailing list, we’ll be able to keep you posted of events throughout his residency.
