We are delighted to return to the work of Najwan Darwish: a leading voice in contemporary Arabic literature. Darwish works as a poet, journalist, editor and critic. The New York Review of Books has described him as “one of the foremost Arabic-language poets of his generation” and Canadian poet Amal El-Mohtar said Darwish has “a voice simultaneously so passionate and so matter-of-fact that it stops the breath.”
Najwan Darwish’s work will be introduced by returning guest translator Atef Alshaer who has led a number of our recent workshops on Arabic poetry.
The workshops are open to all. There is no need to know the language being translated.

Feedback from our most recent workshops:
“A very useful way of learning how to translate & think about translation.”
Please note, originally this event listing stated that we would also be translating poems by Ibrahim Nasrallah. This is no longer the case and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
