Join acclaimed UK poet Clare Pollard and Arabic expert Atef Alshaer for another workshop translating the poetry of Amjad Nasser.

Amjad Nasser is the pseudonym of Yahya Numeiri al-Naimat, a London-based Jordanian writer, journalist and poet and one of the pioneers of modern Arabic poetry and Arabic prose poem. His poetry emphasises the celebration of daily life in detail, rather than raw politics. He is one of the pioneers of the prose poem in Arabic literature.

Atef Alshaer is a Lecturer in Arabic Studies at the University of Westminster. He first came to London after completing his Bachelor degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Birzeit in Palestine. Alshaer has written several research papers and monographs, including his book, Poetry and Politics in the Modern Arab World.

Clare Pollard is an award winning UK poet, She has published four collections with Bloodaxe Books, latest is Incarnation. In 2003 she won a Society of Authors travel award and an Arts Council writer’s award. She has extensive experience as a translator, co-translating Caasha Lul Mohamud Yusuf for the PTC. Clare also mentors for New Writing North, and is a core tutor on the new Poetry School/University of Newcastle Poetry MA.

The workshops run from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
