Translating Possibilities will bring together a mix of different languages, translation practices and poetic voices to look beyond the page. The night will feature readings, performances, dance and films from poets and translators who have worked with SOAS the Poetry Translation Centre in the past and exciting new friends who are pushing the boundaries of poetry through translation.
US poet and translator David Shook, known for his translations from Latin America returns to London to present his latest project, a film and live performance with Iraqi poet Zêdan Xelef.
Poet, writer and filmmaker, Victoria Adukwei Bulley will present a section of her intergenerational poetry, translation and film project Mother Tongues celebrating the work of acclaimed poets of colour alongside the cultures, languages and women who’ve nurtured them, alongside a live reading from one of her parents.
Arts activist, academic and Director of the Complete Works, Nathalie Teitler will give us all a twirl with her Dancing Words project, with live readings from Young People’s Laureate For London emeritus, Caleb Femi.
The night promises to be surprising and celebratory, a giddy dash through the most exciting parts of contemporary poetry and translation practice. We look forward to seeing you there.
