این لبخند از جزایر قناری نمی آید This Smile Hasn’t Come from the Canary Islands

این لبخند از جزایر قناری نمی آید

این لبخند از جزایر قناری نمی آید

از چای ِ عصر آغاز می شود
و بوسه ای نابهنگام
که از روی صندلی می افتد
و شکل میز را تغییر می دهد

This Smile Hasn’t Come from the Canary Islands

This smile hasn't come from the Canary Islands
It begins with afternoon tea
and an unexpected kiss
falling off a chair
changing the shape of the table

This smile does not come from Canary Islands

This smile does not come from Canary Islands
It starts with the afternoon tea
And a sudden kiss
Falling off the chair
Changing the shape of the table

The first of six delicate, tiny lyrics by Fariba Shadloo that we translated in one workshop, we did very little to Alireza’s fine literal translation, as you’ll see if you compare his literal with our final version.

In the original Farsi, none of these poems has a title. Because of the way our website is set up, we’ve had to use the first line as the title for each of them.
