Nashwa Gowanlock is a writer, editor, and literary translator of Arabic literature. Her published book-length translations include the collaborative novel by nine refugee writers, Shatila Stories (Peirene Press), and a co-translation of Samar Yazbek’s memoir, The Crossing: My Journey to the Shattered Heart of Syria (Rider Books, PRH).

She has had poems and translations published widely in journals including Asymptote, The Common, Magma and The Other Side of Hope. She is the managing editor of Arablit.org and a contributing editor of ArabLit Quarterly. She holds an MFA in Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and was awarded a mentorship with the British Centre for Literary Translation in 2014.
