The first PTC translation workshops held by outside of London were part of the International Agatha Christy Festival in Torquay in September 2017. We ran a series of three workshops at the festival with leading Arabic Translator Alice Guthrie and award-winning UK poet Emily Hasler. Using Agatha Christie’s own travels as a jumping off point the workshop translated contemporary Arabic poets from Egypt, Syria and Iraq, three countries that Agatha Christie had visited and written about. Looking at contemporary poets from these countries gave us a way to celebrate Agatha Christie’s internationalism while discovering new artistic voices from that region.
