Samuel Wilder is a translator of Arabic literature, a writer, and a student of comparative poetics. Since 2006, he has lived and worked as a literary translator in Cairo and Beirut, and pursued academic work in London and Cambridge. While a student at Brown University in 2005, he was awarded the Lucius Lyon Prize for poetry translation for his versions of two of Horace’s Odes. He is currently a Phd candidate in Arabic studies at Cambridge University, where he is studying the transformations of lyric form and the conceptual mapping of love in Arabic poetry of the Umayyad period (7th-8th centuries CE). His translations from Arabic appear in the current issue of Portal 9 Magazine, published in Beirut.
