Allison DeFrees is a lawyer, puppeteer, playwright, poet and songwriter. She read English Language and Literature and minored in French at the University of Virginia, followed by a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. While working primarily in the field of immigration law, she also has experience in medical malpractice, family, real estate and contracts law, and has a deep commitment to pro bono work. Ms. Ouvry has concurrently enjoyed a career in writing, theatre arts and music. In New York City Ms. DeFrees was invested in the poetry scene, helping to set up readings throughout the city. Since settling in London, along with a law practice Ms. DeFrees’ main activities have centered on puppetry, as a playwright, puppet master and puppeteer. Recent commissions include a Shakespeare-based puppet show for the Victoria & Albert Museum and a show about Borges for the Wigtown Book Festival.
